Cornus mas (Cornelian Cherry)
This small deciduous shrub features small rounded clusters of delicate bright yellow flowers that cover the bare branches for several weeks. The blooms are followed by glossy red edible fruits that hang like cherries, and can be used in syrups and preserves. The foliage of ovate dark green leaves turns purple in the fall, then fall to show the exfoliating rough, deep brown bark. Slow growth rate.
