Pteridium aquilinum (Bracken Fern)

Fiddleheads rise up from deep underground rhizomes in spring and last until fall. Green, triangular fronds that are pinnately compound spread rapidly and can form colonies in pasture and marginal areas. Clusters of spore cases line the inrolled edges on the underside of the fertile frond. Once first fall frost takes place the foliage will brown and start to die. Deciduous, vigorous, upright habit, ground cover, fast growth rate.
