Xanthorhiza simplicissima (Yellow Root)

Low growing, spreading shrub that produces arching sprays of tiny, maroon, star-shaped flowers with yellow centres. Foliage is showy, starting off bright green then maturing to shades of red, yellow and orange. Stems and roots produce a bright yellow pigment/dye when crushed. Average growth rate.
